Lot Listing #563 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited
ATTENTION INVESTORS AND COLLECTORS! This is your opportunity to own the next ‘future classic!’ Clean and well-kept examples of the ZJ Grand Cherokee (first generation) are quickly becoming extremely sought after and desirable, and thus values are skyrocketing to $20,000 and more! The 5.9 Limited is touted as the ‘holy grail’ of mid-nineties Jeeps and was declared the fastest and quickest SUV in the world in 1998, sparking the ‘Super SUV’ boom that has resulted in vehicles like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Range Rover S/C, BMW X5M, and M-B ML63 AMG. Scooting to 60mph in 6.8 seconds, this was the fastest SUV on the planet in 1998, and also named the world’s best off roader by MotorTrend.
This example is a completely rust-free Washington vehicle since new, touts less than 93,000 original miles, has been mechanically gone through, and is in mostly original and great condition. Recent servicing in the last 7,500 miles includes; new front and rear shocks and sway bar end-links, new front and rear calipers pads and rotors, 5 new all-weather tires, new alternator, new water pump, new thermostat, new water outlet hose, new serpentine belt, tensioner, and idler pullies, new a/c compressor, front differential service, and more.
Starting inside, Infinity offered 10-speaker “Gold” audio and a unique sound bar above the 2nd row. Those rear passengers were spoiled with an armrest, wood trim, and American-sized cup holders. Jeep’s normal leather was replaced by calf skin, and it extended onto the doors, shifter, and the full-length center console. On the outside, aerodynamics were enhanced by sculpting a lower roof rack and incorporating ground effects into the rocker panels. New 5-spoke wheels were cast in 16”x 7” and wrapped in high-performance Goodyear rubber. A new front end used recessed grille slats above a cooling duct that allowed a straight shot to the radiator. Eliminating the bumper guards and color-matching the cladding was long overdue. The 5.9 badges and sporty-looking functional hood-louvres offered no questions as to what was under the hood.
