Lot #136 - 1970 VW Camper Van - Westfalia Tin Top

$0.00

These old VW Bay window buses are truly iconic and represent an era of fun and independence. We cherish and restore them because they are history on wheels and evoke memories of youthful days gone by.

This is a beautifully restored VW Type-2, early bay window bus, with an original Westfalia "Tin Top" camper van conversion. No pop-top on this gem, but all the interior accoutrements Westfalia was known for, plus some favorable additions.

An engine rebuild was accomplished when the owner purchased the bus in 2016. Only 11K leisurely vacation miles have been put on the engine since. The bullet-proof VW bus transaxle has an unknown quantity of miles on it.

The comprehensive body restoration was fulfilled in 2017 and included the complete removal of the interior and sanding the exterior down to bare metal in preparation for the new color combination. Before reassembly, rattle-mat sound-deadening material was added on all interior metal, walls, and ceiling. One-inch-thick batt insulation was also added to the ceiling, making for a much quieter ride.

Countless new items have been installed, including the windshield, door and glass seals, mirrors, all the way down to the seat belts and sink water pump. The file folder of receipts lists them all.

Original literature is also contained in the glovebox. Owner’s Manual, Campmobile Manual, Maintenance Book (with service record stamps to 96K miles), and a VW Diagnostic Coupon booklet.

“Extras” include spare parts, 2nd key set, original Solex carburetor, original 019 distributor, a rare child’s cot, the original rear hatch snap-in bug screen, and a “How To Keep Your Volkswagen Alive Manual.

This is a complete turnkey package that speaks for itself, but the sellers have “kindly left” a few small projects for the next owner. The dash lights do not work, the speedometer is not correct to true speed, and the fuel gauge is not functioning. The owners are leaving their notebook to keep track of mileage.
